The FIC course will provide participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge required for their role as a Fitness Instructor. At the end of the course, participants are expected to be able to execute the basic exercises correctly. Additionally, participants shall be able to conduct and provide the necessary instructions to their potential client to enable the client to perform the exercises in a proper and safe manner. Participants should also be able to prescribe the appropriate and effective exercise training programme that achieves their client’s fitness and health goals.


Course Period: 22 July to 6 September 2014

Course Duration: 36 hours

Course Venue: Republic Polytechnic Campus

Course fees payable:  SG $750.00 (excluding GST)

Course requirements:

- Must possess a valid CPR certification (prior to the commencement of the Attachment hours)

- Must pass the Basic Sports Science (BSS) course or equivalent qualification. The list of the equivalent qualifications listed on BSS course’s website.


• Note: maximum class size will be capped at 40pax, applicants will be offered on a first come first serve basis.



A. Theory examination

75 Multiple-Choice-Questions

Candidates are required to score at least 53 marks to pass.

B. Practical examination

The 3 stations to be assessed are:

1. Flexibility, Stack and Free weights

2. Body composition

3. Aerobic fitness

Participants must pass all three stations to successfully complete the Practical component

• Participants must meet the required attendance of 80% for lessons to be eligible to sit for the examinations

• Participants are allowed up to 2 attempts at the re-assessment (within the next 6 months). Failing which, the candidate will be required to re-apply and register for the FIC course again.

Note: There is a re-assessment fee of $50.00 (excl. GST) for the theory examination and each practical station.

C. Attachment programme

Candidates who have successfully completed both the Theory and Practical examinations must also undergo a 30-hour attachment programme with a senior/ experienced personal trainer or gym provider. This 30-hour attachment duration must be completed within 6 months from the date of the announcement of the examination results.

Very Important Note:

Candidate must successfully complete all three components above (i.e., A + B + C) before being awarded the Fitness Instructor Certification.
