How to be an NROC Coach

To be eligible for the National Registry of Coaches (NROC), coaches need to fulfill the following requirements: 

Coaches with no prior coaching certification obtained after November 2014: 

Or

  • SG-Coach/NCAP Integrated (Theory & Technical) Certification and 
  • Basic Sports Science Certificate and 
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certification
  • Minimum age of 18

Coaches with coaching certification obtained prior to November 2014: 

  • National Coaching Accreditation Programme (NCAP) Theory Certification and 
  • NCAP Technical Certification
Or 

 

  • NCAP Integrated (Theory & Technical) Certification and
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certification
  • Minimum age of 18

Foreign Coaches

Foreign coaches conducting paid services will require a valid employment pass or work permit (for coaching) before they are allowed to conduct coaching activities under his/her current employment pass or work permit (for coaching).

Foreign coaches who are conducting unpaid services will not need to produce an employment pass or work permit. However, they will be required to make a declaration to their employer that they are volunteering their services, and receive a letter of acknowledgement from their employer.

Standard First Aid  

During the course of coaching, there could be incidences of emergency or injury, it is essential that coaches are trained in the knowledge and skills in Standard First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and usage of Automated External Defibrillator (AED). This will better prepare coaches for emergency situations and manage the risks involved in sports coaching. 

Sport Singapore requires all NROC-registered coaches to have a valid Standard First Aid certificate. The minimum number of hours spent on the Standard First Aid course should not be less than 21 hours long with a theoretical examination and practical assessment including AED, CPR and bandaging of wounds.

Coaches must register online. Please contact the Coach Development Department, sport_coaching@sport.gov.sg, if you have any queries.  

NROC New/Renewal applications 

Coaches have been able to apply for or renew their NROC memberships online since November 2013. Please use Internet Explorer (IE) 11

Coaches who require assistance in person may visit us at the Sports Hub (3 Stadium Drive, Singapore 397630) on Tuesdays from 10am to 12pm or Thursdays from 3pm to 5pm (excluding public holidays). This schedule will allow us to attend to coaches promptly, and you may contact us at sport_coaching@sport.gov.sg or 6500 5296 for assistance.
