Team SportCares At Akira Swift 61st Championships
23 Mar 2014
Fears and tears got shed and left behind today as the CareRunners ran their hearts out at the Akira Swift 61st Track and Field Championships.
Running in the 800m event for the first time, young Zul put down a spectacular race of 2.19.50 to win the gold medal in the U14 boys category.
After an uncertain start, Hanisa claimed a bronze medal with a time of 14.94, just 0.01 points off the silver in the girls U14 100m. It was her first race ever.
For Thaslim, the race produced a gold medal in the afternoon sun in the boys U17 800m, followed by Pavi with a silver medal.
For Fadhil, competing in the formidable open mens 800m category, the race meant shaving 10 seconds off his previously tested time.
The team, which trains weekly at CCAB Track, has come a long way in the past six months. Many thanks to SAA and Coach Elangovan and to Ben Pulham and the volunteers from Running Department who first got the team moving.
Special thanks to National hurdler Dipna Lim for coming by with training tips for the girls on the team.
For Andik, Farhana and Nabila, we're going to see you on the podium in 2014, too.
