Singapore Para Athlete Mohammad Khairi Bin Ishak Banned for Anti-Doping Rule Violation

National para athlete Mohammad Khairi Bin Ishak, from the sport of athletics, has received a 4-year ban by the National Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee for an anti-doping rule violation.

Mohammad Khairi tested positive for methandienone (or metandienone) following an out-of-competition test by Anti-Doping Singapore (ADS) on 12 March 2018. Methandienone is a non-specified substance in the class of Anabolic Agents and is prohibited at all times under the 2018 Prohibited List.

His period of ineligibility began on 6 April 2018, the date that the provisional suspension came into effect. Mohammad Khairi was selected to represent Singapore at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Following the provisional suspension, he was been withdrawn from the event. In addition, Mohammad Khairi has been disqualified from all competitive results, medals, points and prizes obtained from 12 March 2018 onwards.

With this ban, Mohammad Khairi is not allowed to participate in any form of training or competition at a competitive level in any sport – either as a competitor or a support role; whether paid or volunteered; for the stipulated period of the ban.

Under the ADS Anti-Doping Rules, the Singapore Disability Sports Council is required to enforce these sanctions immediately.

Mohammad Khairi has until 4 May 2018 to appeal the decision.
