Sale For The 1st Asian Youth Games' Official Merchandise Is Now On

Singapore, 8 May 2009 - The Singapore Asian Youth Games Organising Committee (SAYGOC), in collaboration with the SingPost, is making available the official merchandise for the 1st Asian Youth Games (AYG) Singapore 2009 at 20 Post Offices across the country. This range of exclusive memorabilia is also on sale at eight Singapore Sports Council's (SSC) Sports and Recreation Centres from today.

  1. The items on offer range from delightful collectables such as the deluxe stationery set and hardcover notebook to sports wear and accessories such as t-shirts, baseball cap, sports water bottle and sports towel. The Games' Mascot, FRASIA, even has his very own plush toy and is also featured on the mobile phone straps.

  2. The official logo collar pin is another must-have item. Even athletes and officials exchange them as a gift and memory of their experience at the Games! Prices range from S$2 for the collar pin to S$14 for the FRASIA Mascot Plush Toy, so there is something for all age groups.

  3. For stamp enthusiasts, from 1 June, limited-edition AYG stamps will be on sale in a set of 10 at S$7.50. This will be an ideal collector's item and is a way to promote this inaugural multi-sports events across the globe.

  4. "Official merchandise is a key element of any major games. It gives the wider community an opportunity to become part of the legacy that the Games will create and by making it affordable for all, these gifts or mementos can spread the word about the 1st Asian Youth Games around Singapore and beyond", said Ms Stacy Tan, Head of AYG Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-Committee.

  5. The tie-up between SAYGOC and SingPost makes the purchase of the AYG merchandise convenient. The public can choose any of these three easy options:

  • Just head down to any of the 20 selected Post Offices and purchase the item of their choice on the spot;

  • Buy online at http://shop.vpost.com.sg or through mail order (using the order form) and have the items delivered right to their doorsteps; or

  • Fill out the order form and submit the form including payment at any of SingPost's 62 Post Offices islandwide. The order will be delivered right to their doorsteps, too!

  1. For those with an eye for a bargain, a full set of merchandise can be purchased for only $65 (usual price $76); and until 31 May there is a 5% discount for bulk purchases of 100 items or more.

  2. SAYGOC is working with partners to have more convenient platforms of sale for the AYG merchandise. The public can check out the full range of AYG merchandise and where to purchase them at www.ayg2009.sg. The merchandise will also be on offer at the nine sports venues during the AYG.

About the 1st Asian Youth Games Singapore 2009
The Asian Youth Games (AYG) is an international multi-sports event held every four years to complement the existing Asian Games. The idea was first mooted as part of Singapore?s Youth Olympic Games bid in 2007. On 3 April 2008, the Olympic Council of Asia's (OCA) Executive Board unanimously agreed to award the hosting of the first AYG to Singapore. This decision was backed by all 45 members of the OCA on 6 April 2008. The inaugural AYG, which is co-organised by the Singapore Sports Council and the Ministry of Education, aims to gather the youth from around Asia in a celebration of youth, sports and learning, where they will engage in friendly competition and imbibe the Olympic sporting values of excellence, friendship and respect. AYG Singapore 2009 will see athletes aged between 14 and 17 from 45 OCA member nations competing in 90 events across nine sports from 29 June to 7 July 2009.
