Queenstown Celebrates National Day With Opening of Renovated Sport Centre, Festivities and Fireworks

Singapore, 8 August 2026 – Queenstown celebrated National Day with a full array of festivities, bringing together residents both young and old. The celebrations took place at the renovated ActiveSG Queenstown Sport Centre, which was also officially opened by Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Social and Family Development, and Grassroots Adviser to Queenstown SMC. 

To welcome residents back to the facility, Sport Singapore (SportSG) and the People’s Association (PA) organised activities that brought families and communities together to celebrate Singapore’s 61st birthday. ActiveSG Celebrates! – a nationwide community sport carnival held across five venues as part of the annual GetActive! Singapore – and the Queenstown National Day Carnival featured sport tryouts, fitness activities, carnival games, live performances and Queenstown’s National Day Observance Ceremony (NDOC). 

An iconic venue for many, ActiveSG Queenstown Sport Centre has welcomed generations of residents to play sport over the years since it first opened in the 1970s. The refreshed sport centre weaves together heritage elements, modern facilities and accessibility features that reflect the diversity of the neighbourhood – from young families new to the area to seniors who have lived there for decades – while honouring its legacy as Singapore's first neighbourhood sports complex.

Key features include a new annexe building with a gym and two activity rooms; a refreshed swimming complex with new pool deck flooring; an upgraded rugby field that meets World Rugby standards; a resurfaced running track; and a new dry-dive facility to complement the sport centre’s iconic 4.5-metre diving pool.

Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Social and Family Development, and Grassroots Adviser to Queenstown SMC, said, “The renewed Queenstown Sport Centre reflects the Queenstown we want to build: proud of our past, ready for our future, and inclusive of people of every age and ability. But ultimately, a great town is not defined only by its facilities; it is defined by its heart, its kampung spirit, and how we look out for one another. That is the Queenstown where EveryQT belongs.”

The festivities ran from 4pm to 9pm, concluding on a high note with a breathtaking fireworks display. All visitors also enjoyed complimentary access to the gym and swimming pool throughout the day.
