20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026
The 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will take place from 19 September to 4 October 2026. Singapore will field 304 athletes competing in 27 sports, with close to two-thirds of the contingent making their Asian Games debut.
Among them are seasoned athletes such as Shanti Pereira (athletics), Ryan Lo (sailing), Stephenie Chen (canoe) and Amita Berthier (fencing), alongside Asian Games debutants including Amanda Yap (gymnastics), Ser Lin Qian (table tennis) and Ian Goh (sailing). Together, they reflect the blend of experience and emerging talent within Team Singapore, as they rise to the challenge and represent Singapore with pride.
For many of the younger athletes, the Asian Games represent an important milestone in their longer sporting journeys, providing an opportunity to test themselves against Asia’s best, gain experience at the continental level and continue their development towards future Major Games.
Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Team Singapore’s Chef de Mission for 20th Asian Games, said, “It is a great honour to lead Team Singapore at the Asian Games. Having experienced Major Games from the organising side, I have a deep appreciation of the tremendous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. As Chef de Mission, my focus is now very clearly on our athletes - to give them the confidence, support and environment they need to perform at their best.
“Every athlete has worked incredibly hard to earn the opportunity to represent Singapore, and I want them to know that they are not making this journey alone. Standing behind our athletes is a dedicated team of coaches, team managers, medical and sport science professionals, officials and support staff, all working together to support them every step of the way. Our role is to make sure our athletes can focus on what matters most: competing with confidence and giving their very best.
“When our athletes step onto the Asian Games stage, I want them to do so knowing that Singapore is behind them. I look forward to sharing this journey with our athletes, to seeing them compete with courage, embrace the experience, support one another and, above all, enjoy the privilege of representing our nation. Together, as One Team Singapore, we will give our best and make Singapore proud.”
Team Singapore fencer and Asian Games flag bearer, Ms Kiria Tikanah Abdul Rahman, said, “It is an honour to be carrying the Singapore flag. Having represented Singapore at various competitions over the years, being chosen as a flag bearer is something really special. Everyone has worked incredibly hard to earn their place at the Asian Games, and I’m proud to be standing alongside my fellow Team Singapore athletes. As one team, I believe we can draw strength from one another and give our best for Singapore.”
Team Singapore kayaker and Asian Games flag bearer, Mr Brandon Ooi Wei Cheng, said, “Ever since I competed in my first Games as a 15-year-old, I dreamed of a moment like this, though I never expected it would come. At 32, I am deeply honoured to lead our contingent into the opening ceremony as flagbearer. To me, the Singapore flag represents the unwavering support of our coaches, teammates, families, and fellow Singaporeans who have backed us every step of the way. I’m ready to give everything I’ve trained for in my races to make our supporters proud. This Asian Games will also be the first for most of my kayaking teammates. I couldn't be more excited for them, and for all of us, to experience this journey together.”
Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will take place from 31 October to 13 November 2026, with Team Singapore represented by 13 athletes across nine sports.
These young athletes will have the opportunity to test themselves against their peers from around the world, gain valuable international competition experience and continue their development towards future Major Games.
Mr Silas Abdul Razak, Team Singapore’s Chef de Mission for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, said, “It is a special honour for me to lead Team Singapore at the Youth Olympic Games, having had the privilege of being part of the inaugural YOG in Singapore in 2010 as a torchbearer. I was also a field hockey player then, and the experience cemented my love and passion for sport, and inspired me to pursue a 16-year playing career and a career in Singapore’s sporting fraternity. I look forward to experiencing the YOG from a very different perspective this time, as Chef de Mission, and supporting a team of budding young athletes, many of whom will be competing at their first Major Games. I hope this will be the first of many Games to come for them.
“The YOG is about more than just competition. It is an opportunity to make lifelong friendships, learn from one another and gain experiences from being part of a gathering of some of the world’s best young athletes. I hope our athletes return from Dakar not only with memories of their performances, but also with friendships, lessons and experiences that will stay with them long after the Games.”
Team Singapore paddler and Youth Olympic Games flag bearer, Ms Loy Ming Ying, said, “I was surprised when I found out that I would be carrying the Singapore flag. It will be my first Youth Olympic Games, so I’m excited to compete on such a big stage and experience the Games. I hope to play well, enjoy every moment in Dakar and make Singapore proud.”
Team Singapore shuttler and Youth Olympic Games flag bearer, Mr Zack Ng Zhen Hong, said, “I’m really excited and honoured to be carrying the Singapore flag at the Youth Olympic Games. It makes the occasion even more special for me, and I’m grateful to my family, coaches and teammates who have helped me get here. I’m looking forward to competing, doing my best in every match and seeing how far I can go.”
