SINGAPORE, 13 JUNE 2025 – The community can look forward to a new Sport-in-Precinct facility in Kolam Ayer, even as Kallang Basin ActiveSG Swimming Complex and St Wilfred ActiveSG Sport Centre cease operations permanently in the second half of 2025 upon their lease expiry.
The new Sport-in-Precinct facility, together with existing ActiveSG sport facilities within and beyond the vicinity, will enable the community to continue their sporting activities following the closures. The Whampoa Sport-in-Precinct facility, set for completion by end-2025, will provide additional sporting options for the community. The Kallang Basin ActiveSG Swimming Complex and St Wilfred ActiveSG Sport Centre will close on 1 September 2025 and 1 October 2025 respectively.
Continued support for affected stakeholders
With the closure of the Kallang Basin ActiveSG Swimming Complex and St Wilfred ActiveSG Sport Centre, residents will still be able to maintain their active lifestyles at nearby existing facilities, namely:
ActiveSG Swimming Complexes at Serangoon, Geylang East, and Jalan Besar
Squash and tennis courts at Kallang ActiveSG Squash Centre, Burghley ActiveSG Squash and Tennis Centre, and Kallang Tennis Centre
Indoor Sport Hall and Free-to-Play field at Bendemeer Primary School under the Dual-Use Scheme
Football field Bendemeer Secondary School under the Dual-Use Scheme
The community can also continue to enjoy sports at more than 20 ActiveSG Sport Centres, over 300 Dual-Use Scheme facilities, and 10 Sport-in-Precinct facilities across Singapore. For a full list of available venues island wide, please visit: https://www.activesgcircle.gov.sg/facilities
These facilities have long served residents and the sporting community well, and agencies are committed to working closely together to bring alternative sporting amenities closer to homes, including new Sport-in-Precinct facilities in Whampoa and Kolam Ayer.
Kallang Basin Swimming Complex and St Wilfred Sport Centre sites to be redeveloped
The government regularly reviews land use plans to ensure that current and future needs of Singaporeans are carefully planned for. This includes identifying suitable sites to support Singaporeans' diverse housing aspirations and evolving needs. As part of our land use strategies, we adopt a sustainable approach by recycling our land for redevelopment, which allows us to repurpose sites and reallocate spaces to so as to better meet the evolving needs of our residents.
With the lease expiry of these sports complexes, agencies are studying plans to introduce public housing at these sites. This is part of our ongoing efforts to address the strong and broad-based demand for housing in recent years. The Government remains committed to providing public housing and ensuring a quality living environment for all. As part of our long-term planning efforts, the government will also continue to develop and enhance sports infrastructure, working closely with the community to meet Singapore's evolving lifestyle and recreational needs.
More sport facilities for residents to look forward to
As part of the Sports Facilities Master Plan (SFMP), SportSG continues to develop and rejuvenate infrastructure to meet Singapore’s diverse and evolving sporting needs, interests, and aspirations. The number of ActiveSG facilities across Singapore has increased by 30% since 2013, with more upcoming. These include:
Farrer Park Town Play Field, which include plans to house a sheltered swimming pool, a multi-purpose play field, and an inclusive gym.
Queenstown Sport Centre, offering more free-to-play spaces and refurbished pool amenities, is expected to be ready by end-2025.
Ang Mo Kio Swimming Complex, with a new sheltered swimming pool and fitness spaces, is expected to be completed by end-2025.
Punggol Regional Sport Centre which will house sheltered tennis and futsal courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools with a 5,000 seater stadium, will open in 2026.
SportSG, together with other relevant agencies, will also continue to explore opportunities to inject recreational spaces and sporting amenities into future residential neighbourhoods. These efforts support SFMP’s vision of enabling majority of our residents to access affordable and inclusive sports facilities within a 10-minute walk from their homes by around 2030.
