Inaugural School Sports Fiesta Kicks Off with 1,400 Students Rallying Behind One Team, One Dream Campaign for SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games 2025
15 October 2025
About 1,400 students from four secondary schools participated in sporting competitions, including basketball, boccia, frisbee, and sitting volleyball, alongside sport try-outs and interactive booths at the inaugural School Sports Fiesta.
Team Singapore athletes, including Shanti Pereira (athletics), Aloysius Gan (boccia), Farhanah Ruhaizat (football), and Audrey Tong (tennis), shared their inspiring journeys with the students at the event.
The School Sports Fiesta marks the beginning of a nationwide One Team, One Dream campaign to rally support for Team Singapore athletes ahead of the upcoming SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games in Thailand.
Singapore, 15 October 2025 – The inaugural School Sports Fiesta today brought together 1,400 Secondary One students from four schools – Edgefield Secondary School, Yusof Ishak Secondary School, Greendale Secondary School and Punggol Secondary School – in the spirit of sport, ahead of the SEA Games (9-20 December 2025) and ASEAN Para Games (20-26 January 2026) in Thailand.
Organised by Sport Singapore (SportSG) with support from the schools, the initiative encourages youths to play, learn, and compete together, creating bonds and nurturing values through sport. This pilot programme builds on ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) to broaden sporting opportunities at the cluster level while fostering youth social integration across school clusters.
Students participated in basketball, boccia, frisbee, and sitting volleyball competitions, as well as sport try-outs including athletics, football, hockey and tennis. They also enjoyed a variety of fringe activities, including interactive booths showcasing Team Singapore and the national sport volunteerism movement Team Nila, Active Health fitness assessments, and street dance workshops. Team Singapore sprinter Shanti Pereira, boccia player Aloysius Gan, footballer Farhanah Ruhaizat, and tennis player Audrey Tong, joined the students in the sport try-outs and shared their personal stories of perseverance and triumph, inspiring them to pursue excellence both within and beyond sport.
Mr David Neo, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth & Senior Minister of State for Education, who was the Guest-of-Honour at the event, presented medals to the sports competition winners, and Sportsmanship Awards to students who exemplified teamwork and resilience.
“The School Sports Fiesta aims to get more students from different schools and backgrounds to unite through sports, and to play together. Through sports, our students make new friends and learn about teamwork, respect, and resilience. Today, we also launch the “One Team, One Dream” campaign to rally support for Team Singapore athletes headed for SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games. Let’s get behind our athletes and cheer them on!” said Mr David Neo at the event.
Shanti, SEA Games 100m and 200m reigning champion, added: "It's incredible to see so many young people come together through sport today. Seeing their enthusiasm and passion reminds me why we compete – not just for ourselves, but for every Singaporean who believes in us. I hope today plants a seed that will grow into their own sporting dreams."
Rallying Community Support through One Team, One Dream Campaign
Mr Neo also marked the start of the One Team, One Dream campaign by penning the first message of support for Team Singapore, joined by representatives from SportSG, MOE, Team Singapore athletes, teachers and students.
Aimed at rallying Singaporeans behind our athletes in the lead-up to the upcoming SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games, the One Team, One Dream campaign will continue in the coming months through a series of community engagement initiatives. These include sharing stories of our athletes that highlight their dedication, resilience and pursuit of excellence across various social media platforms; community roadshows that will bring the spirit of Team Singapore to schools and other key locations; and a nationwide well-wishing campaign that invites the public to contribute messages of support for our athletes via the Team Singapore website.
"Being part of the One Team, One Dream campaign allows every Singaporean – especially our students – to play a meaningful role in supporting our athletes as part of our larger Team Singapore," said Mr Alan Goh, Chief Executive Officer, SportSG. "For our youth, this campaign highlights the value of unity and collective support, and we hope that it also inspires them to pursue their own sporting dreams. As our athletes prepare to fly our flag high at the upcoming SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games, knowing that Singaporeans of all ages are behind them will spur them to give their best."
Bringing School Sports Fiesta Activities to More Schools
The School Sports Fiesta will continue to travel to two other locations in the coming weeks. This pilot initiative brings together 16 schools across two clusters, engaging over 2,300 students in sporting activities and competitions. Details on the participating schools can be found in Annex A.
