Application for Enabling Sports Fund to Support Community-Led Disability Sport Initiatives Opens 1 August
31 July 2025
• The Fund will cover costs that directly support the running of impactful community-initiated disability sports initiatives
• This Fund is one of the strategic moves under the refreshed Disability Sports Master Plan to encourage innovation and strengthen collaboration across different aspects of disability sports.
Singapore, 31 July 2025 – From 1 August 2025, individuals, groups, and organisations keen to organise sport initiatives for persons with disabilities can apply for the Enabling Sports Fund. To encourage impactful and sustained community participation, the Fund will cover costs that directly support the running of the programmes, which could include the purchase of sports equipment, venue costs, transportation arrangements for programme participants, and coaching fees.
The Enabling Sports Fund is one of the strategic moves under the refreshed Disability Sports Master Plan (DSMP), announced in November 2024 by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) and Enabling Sports Taskforce (ESTF). It aims to empower and grow community-led disability sports efforts by providing funding support for programmes and activities that enable more persons with disabilities to participate in sport and discover their sporting aspirations, to create a more inclusive and connected society through sport.
Mr David Neo, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, and Senior Minister of State for Education, said, “Sports brings people together, regardless of age, background or ability. With the launch of the Enabling Sports Fund, we are taking another step forward in making sport more accessible for persons with disabilities. When sport reflects the diversity of our Singapore story and everyone can play together and connect, we build a stronger, more inclusive society. I encourage community groups to tap on this fund to organise sports activities that allow more persons with disabilities to participate in sport.”
The Enabling Sports Fund welcomes applications from individuals, groups, and organisations — including social service agencies, non-profit organisations, National Sports Associations, disability sport organisations, and social enterprises. Both one-off activities and regular programmes are eligible. Proposals will be evaluated based on the significance and scale of the initiative, and its potential reach and impact on persons with disabilities in the community.
A strong turnout at a recent virtual information session which was held to support interested applicants, reflected the community’s interest in disability sports. Attendees asked thoughtful questions and showed interest in developing inclusive sport programmes – a positive sign of the community’s growing readiness to step forward and shape a more inclusive disability sports landscape.
Mr Marcus Tan, Chief of Sport Development Group, said, “Sport has the power to break barriers — it’s not just about physical activity, but also about inclusion, confidence, and the sense of belonging it fosters. When we create spaces and opportunities for persons with disabilities to thrive in sport, we build a more united and resilient society. The Enabling Sports Fund will strengthen our collaboration with community partners and empower ground-up initiatives. By doing so, it will also pave the way for greater innovation and deeper partnerships across the disability sports ecosystem — so that more persons with disabilities can access and benefit from meaningful sporting opportunities.”
The Enabling Sports Fund is supported by the President’s Challenge, with Sport Singapore appointed as an Impact Partner. Members of the public can also contribute by donating via https://go.gov.sg/givingsg-esf with all donations matched dollar-for-dollar by the Government. The goal is to raise at least $10 million by 2030.
