ActiveSG Queenstown Sport Centre Reopens with More Diverse and Accessible Sporting Facilities for All

Singapore, 5 August 2026 – The newly-renovated ActiveSG Queenstown Sport Centre will officially open on Saturday, 8 August 2026, alongside National Day celebration events organised by Sport Singapore (SportSG) and the People’s Association (PA). The facility will be launched by Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Social and Family Development, and Grassroots Adviser to Queenstown SMC.

ActiveSG Queenstown Sport Centre has been renovated with new and upgraded facilities to enhance public access to quality sport spaces. The refreshed sport centre weaves together heritage elements, modern facilities and accessibility features that reflect the diversity of the neighbourhood – from young families new to the area to seniors who have lived there for decades – while honouring its legacy as Singapore's first neighbourhood sports complex. Illustrating SportSG's broader vision under the Sports Facilities Master Plan (SFMP), it provides opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to participate in sport.

Mr Tan Hock Leong, Chief, ActiveSG, Sport Singapore, said, “ActiveSG Queenstown Sport Centre is a familiar space where many people pick up new sports, train with friends and family, or simply unwind with a swim. With this renovated facility, we want to make it a place where the community can pursue sport at various levels – from residents looking for a space to play sport, to athletes who require specialised spaces for training and sport development. With Queenstown’s strong sporting heritage, we hope to continue providing the community with opportunities to reconnect through sport, while embracing and celebrating our past.”

New and enhanced facilities catering for all

The new annexe building houses a gym and two activity rooms, collectively spanning approximately 1,000 sqm and complemented by sheltered outdoor free-to-play spaces for community programmes. The open plan gym features flexible zoning, with ample floor space to cater to activities such as HIIT training and body weight workouts. The gym also provides both conventional and inclusive strength-training equipment including HUR machines, which use pneumatic technology (air pressure) and lever arms to support safe, accessible workouts for seniors, persons with disabilities and those with mobility concerns. Programmes available at the sport centre’s gym activity rooms include kickboxing, yoga, and Zumba, among other fitness offerings.

The swimming complex, comprising a competition pool, a learner's pool and two wading pools, has also been refreshed with new pool deck flooring to continue supporting the needs of competitive and recreational swimming.

Other facilities within the sport centre have also been enhanced to better support high performance training and competitions. The rugby field has been upgraded to meet World Rugby standards and uses an artificial grass system specially designed for the sport. Newly-constructed team changing rooms with dedicated restrooms and changing facilities also provide athletes with a private space for preparations and debriefs. The running track, a popular facility enjoyed by many, has been resurfaced.

To complement the sport centre’s iconic 4.5-metre diving pool – a key feature of the sport centre – a new dry-dive facility has been constructed to provide an additional training environment for Team Singapore divers. The dry-dive facility will be fitted out to allow for high-volume repetitions without water impact, providing a safe and controlled training environment for athletes.

Collectively, these upgrades reflect SportSG’s commitment in building pathways for athletes to train, develop, and excel – from grassroots participation to elite performance.

Beyond sport, the facilities have also been upgraded to incorporate a range of accessibility features, including a mobile pool hoist at the competition pool for persons with disabilities, accessibility ramps, and a central lift to improve connectivity across the facility. Changing rooms and washrooms have also been fully refurbished and expanded, and now include new height-adjustable changing beds within accessible restrooms.

Paying homage to an iconic sports complex

Formerly known as the Queenstown Sports Complex, the facility is part of Singapore's sporting heritage. As the nation's first neighbourhood sports complex, it was officially opened on 15 August 1970 and served as a venue for National Day parades and sporting events. In honour of its legacy, the iconic roof elements of the complex have been retained and a similar design incorporated into new buildings, along with the existing stone-clad planter boxes and retaining wall near the new pool entrance. This heritage layer allows ActiveSG to celebrate a new chapter for the sport centre and welcome new users, while continuing to honour its sporting legacy.

From 2027, visitors to the sport centre will be able to see updated mural paintings and multi-purpose heritage spaces with a senior-friendly, interactive, and multi-generational design. The community will also be meaningfully engaged in different ways to contribute to the sport centre, fostering a sense of ownership among all who use and visit the space.

ActiveSG Queenstown Sport Centre will officially open on 8 August 2026 alongside ActiveSG Celebrates! – a nationwide community sport carnival organised as part of the annual GetActive! Singapore – and the Queenstown National Day Carnival. At the event, residents can enjoy a plethora of activities, including fitness trials such as KpopX Fitness, Pilates and yoga. There will also be live entertainment, giveaways and activities for the whole family. The evening will conclude with a breathtaking fireworks display.

Festivities run from 4pm to 9pm. A registration fee of $5 (payable with ActiveSG Credits) provides access to the full range of activities, games and programmes. Members of the public can also enter both the swimming pool and gym for free throughout the day.
