Game For Life Goes To Spain

Singapore , 23 Aug 2014

Leadership Development Department (LDD) recently visited the Spanish High Council For Sports and University of Alicante, Spain, between 29 June to 7 July. The visit to Spanish High Council For Sports was kindly coordinated by Mr Sergio Cervantes Martinez, Project Director,  Real Madrid Technical Academy Singapore.

The visit forms part of a collaboration to co-design and co-facilitate Game For Life (GFL) - Train The Trainer (TTT) workshops for a team of researchers, coaches, sport administrators and physical educators as part of a research study by the University of Alicante to analyse the integration of a physical activity framework into its existing sports curriculum on Positive Youth Development (PYD). This collaboration came about when its research project manager, Dr. Federico Carreres, recognised the GFL framework as a possible physical activity framework for the intervention project.

This resulted in valuable opportunities to connect with key stakeholders of sport clubs and educational institutions (e.g., Universidad European de Madrid (UEM) – Real Madrid Graduate School, Valencia Football Club).

There were favourable and strategic outcomes from these visits for SportSG, namely possible collaboration opportunities with our Spanish counterpart, clubs and higher institutes of learning:

By bringing the GFL toolkit to Spain, the LDD team has recognised the versatility and the ‘plug and play’ functionality of the framework in sports programmes not just in the local but also the international context.

What Spanish Coaches & Educators say about GFL

“It was better than I expected, because designing the lessons give me more confidence and now I feel more comfortable to see the connection between objectives – values – behaviors – and sport activities.”

“The most important action now is to transfer the values of our club, to all staff as we saw in the “Hierarchy of Choice” because if we do it, we will achieve better results."
