Message from Bob February 2016
As this is the first edition of “The Starting Line” newsletter for 2016, welcome everyone to 2016 and Happy Chinese New Year – I trust you all spent a cherished time with your family and loved ones during this time.
A Year of Milestones
2015 was a year of sport milestones for Singapore, specifically, the 28th SEA Games and 8th ASEAN Para Games, where not only was the power of high performance sports showcased, but also the ability of sports to inspire the community. For me, the recent memories of watching the Cerebral Palsy Football Team fighting for every blade of grass with every ounce of effort and the performance by Jason Chee for Team Singapore Table Tennis has left a lasting impression on myself as well as the people around me.

2016 is the year of the Rio Olympics and Paralympics as well as a crossroads for the Singapore Sports Institute as we formalise our 5+1 year strategy plan and continue to build on making the Sports Institute a home for the athletes of Team Singapore. Just a few of the exciting developments are:
- The alignment between SSI and the National Youth Sports Institute as it comes online into the sport ecosystem.
- SSI as a pioneer member of ASIA (Association of Sports Institutes in Asia) along with Japan, Hong Kong and Qatar, will be having the inaugural Congress on the 15th - 16th March, in Tokyo Japan.
- Our analytics team will continue to forge ahead with an exciting athlete management database that I believe will revolutionise the way things are done and
- With the launch of the spexEntrepreneurship Programme and the Team Singapore Card (13 Jan 2015), the spexBusiness Network is strategically positioned as the primary vehicle for SSI to engage Corporate Singapore to support Team Singapore. This, I believe is one of the most viable ways that Team Singapore can be taken to the next level.
Also, we are growing stronger together with the National Sport Associations in The New Partnership as we move ahead to make Singapore a sports centric nation via Vision 2030 - sport without boundaries, sport as a national language and becoming future ready through sports.
It is an exciting time and together, we are stronger!
