Singapore Sports Science & Technology Research Grant

The Singapore Sports Science & Technology Research Grant (SSSTRG) is an initiative of Sport Singapore through the Singapore Sports Institute (SSI) which aims to support multi-disciplinary sports R&D for capability development and for supporting Team Singapore athletes and coaches.

More specifically, the purpose of the SSSTRG is to:

  1. Build capability and capacity for sports-related science, medicine and technology research in Singapore;

  2. Promote training of young scientists in the area of sports-related science and technology;

  3. Harness national science and technology capabilities for smart solutioning to achieve success for Team Singapore athletes and coaches; and

  4. Encourage and stimulate collaborative research.

Through the SSSTRG, the research findings and applications can in turn be harnessed and translated to enhance Singapore’s sports science and technology development, leading to applications and interventions for athletes and coaches, high quality publications for knowledge generation and the training of specialists in the domain of sports-related R&D.

Sport Singapore is the SSSTRG grant agency and the SSI will be the executing arm for the grant.

Grant Call Themes

The SSSTRG is inviting grant proposals for projects in the following themes:

Environmental physiology and adaptation to enhance sports performance

2.

Enhancing good response to sports training through nutrition

3.

Biomechanical and performance analysis for sports performance enhancement and injury prevention

4.

Training strategies to enhance acute sports performance and/or chronic adaptation

5.

Sports specific strategies to enhance attention in elite athletes

6.

Technological development of equipment and tools to enhance sports training and performance

Grant Mechanism

The aim of the 2nd SSSTRG seeks to streamline potential R&D projects to the requirements of our Team Singapore athletes as well as to encourage greater collaborative research efforts between SSI and local institutions.

Eligible applicants are strongly recommended to approach SSI to discuss and collaborate on proposed projects. This will help to ensure that the research aims and purpose are aligned to the needs and sport-specific requirements of SSI and Team Singapore.

Eligibility

The SSSTRG invites applications from individuals/research teams from:

  • Singapore Sports Institute
  • Institutions of Higher Learning
  • National Laboratories / Research Institutions
  • Hospitals / Medical Institutions

Research projects which are already receiving other sources of funding will NOT be eligible for the SSSTRG.

The 2015 Grant Call seeks to streamline potential R&D projects to the requirements of our Team Singapore athletes as well as to encourage greater collaborative research efforts between SSI and local institutions.

Eligible applicants are strongly recommended to approach SSI to discuss and collaborate on proposed projects. This will help to ensure that the research aims and purpose are aligned to the needs and sport-specific requirements of SSI and Team Singapore.

Funding amount: Up to S$50,000

Duration

Project duration: Not exceeding 1 year

Application Submission

Grant Call Opening Date: 16 March 2015

Interested applicants are required to submit their research proposal according to the template provided on the SSSTRG webpage.

All research proposals and supporting documents must be submitted electronically (in PDF format) by 13 May 2015, 1700hr (local time) to:
