“Sports Science in Sporting Success – the Japanese Experience” by National Institute of Education (NIE) (For All Coaches)

At this sharing session, participants will learn about how Japan helps their athletes to learn and apply sports science (particularly in the areas of biomechanics and exercise physiology) from the undergraduate to the graduate level, where many of their national athletes pursue sports and studies at the same time.

This talk will be delivered by PESS visiting professor Dr. Kaoru Kitagawa (Professor of Exercise Physiology, School and Graduate School of Health and Sport Sciences, Chukyo University) and moderated by Dr. Govindasamy Balasekaran (Head (Physical Education and Sports Science), NIE).

Some of Dr. Kitagawa’s research interests include:

  • Effects of exercise and nutrition on body composition
  • Athletic performance in relation to age and level of physical activity
  • Biomechanics of golf, ski, bowling, swimming and football
