“Science and Art of Coaching Elite Youth Athletes – the Japanese Experience” by National Institute of Education (NIE) (For All Coaches)


At this sharing session, participants will learn about both the science and art in the Japanese way of coaching, as well as the Japanese principles and ideas behind their sporting success.

This talk will be delivered by PESS visiting professor Dr. Kaoru Kitagawa (Professor of Exercise Physiology, School and Graduate School of Health and Sport Sciences, Chukyo University) and moderated by Dr. Michael Chia (Dean for Faculty Affairs, NIE).

Some of Dr. Kitagawa’s research interests include:

  • Effects of exercise and nutrition on body composition
  • Athletic performance in relation to age and level of physical activity
  • Biomechanics of golf, ski, bowling, swimming and football
