“Genomic Regulation of Training Response” by National Institute of Education (NIE) (For All Coaches)

By nature, humans’ physical and mental abilities may vary considerably and their genetic makeup is one of its primary causes. In recent years, there is a significant increase in the research dealing with the genetic  aspects of physical performance. This presentation discusses the impact of the human genetic makeup on sports training response.

This presentation will be delivered by Dr Theodore Angelopoulos (Director of Research, School of Health Sciences and Director, Obesity Research Centre, Emory & Henry College in Virginia, USA). He holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology and an M.P.H in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh, USA. Dr Angelopoulos is also the 8th E W Barker Professor.

Dr Angelopoulos’ key research interests are:

  • Effective lifestyle interventions for obesity and cardiovascular  disease prevention; and
  • Polymorphic variations in genes that code for specific proteins contribute to human variation in both health and disease.
