Capability Development Grant

Introduction

The Capability Development Grant (CDG) provides financial assistance to coaches who wish to upgrade their coaching knowledge and skills via attending coaching attachments, conferences, short-term courses, workshops and seminars as well as obtaining a degree or diploma, both locally and overseas.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Registered with the National Registry of Coaches (NROC);
  • Actively coaching community or school groups for at least 2 years (Singaporeans) or 4 years (foreigners); and
  • Support by National Sports Association (NSA)

 

  • Registered with the NROC;
  • Actively coaching athletes for national, regional, continental and/or international competitions for at least 2 years (Singaporeans) or 4 years (foreigners); and
  • Supported by NSA

Funding Amount

(up to)

  • NROC Coach – $1,000
  • NROC Senior Coach – $3,000
  • NROC Master Coach – $5,000

 

  • NROC Senior Coach – $20,000
  • NROC Master Coach – $30,000

Possible

Post-Grant Deliverables

  • Provide a report that details what was learnt as well as improvements made to coaching practices as a result of the programme;
  • Support the development/delivery of sports-specific programmes with their NSA;
  • Actively participate in at least 2 coaching forums;
  • Share attachment experience and lessons learnt through SSI platforms (e.g. CCE workshops and SSI symposiums);
  • Any other areas of contribution towards coach education and development (approved by Coach Development team)
  • Provide a report that details what was learnt as well as improvements made to coaching practices as a result of the programme;
  • Provide an article for SSI publicity;
  • Develop/deliver sports-specific programmes with their NSA;
  • Actively participate in at least 2 coaching forums and chair at least 1 coaching forum;
  • Share attachment experience and lessons learnt through SSI platforms (e.g. CCE workshops and SSI symposiums);
  • Actively mentor a local coach for at least 1 year and provide a report on this mentorship; and
  • Any other areas of contribution towards coach education and development (approved by Coach Development team).

 

NROC Coaches (supported by their NSAs) who wish to attend overseas courses/workshops/seminars with mentorship attachment or mentorship attachment only may also apply for the grant. SportSG will review the application and deliberate on the actual grant amount.

The above-listed Post-Grant Deliverables are a list of possible deliverables that the successful applicant may be required to fulfil. The actual deliverables for each successful applicant would differ on a case-by-case basis. If an applicant is required to deliver post-event Continuing Coach Education (CCE) workshop(s), the workshop(s) must involve coaches from other sports for greater sharing of knowledge/expertise. 

Only the following items will be covered by the CDG:

  • For local conference, degree/diploma or short-term courses/seminars/workshops, only the course or registration fees will be subsidised.
  • For overseas conference, degree/diploma or short-term courses/seminars/workshops, only the following expenses will be subsidised:
  1. Conference, degree/diploma or short-term course/seminar/workshop registration or course fees
  2. Return economy airfare
  3. Airport taxes
  4. Land transport
  5. Accommodation
  6. Travel Insurance

The grant does not cover:

  1. First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) courses as they are deemed to be fundamental skills requirement for coaches;
  2. Singapore Coach Excellence Programme (SG-Coach) courses organised by SportSG and NSAs (e.g. SG-Coach Theory and Technical courses); and
  3. Continuing Coach Education (CCE) courses/workshops/seminars conducted by NSAs as these activities are subsidised by SportSG.

Individual coaches with support from a relevant National Sports Association (NSA)

What needs to be submitted?

For application:

  • Applicant’s NRIC, Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) and coaching certificates;
  • Details of Capability Development Activity (e.g. course brochure/schedule, proof of acceptance/enrolment/registration from relevant institution/organisation);
  • Invoices/quotations/receipts of the cost items (e.g. return economy air tickets, accommodation, travel insurance, course fees);
  • Feedback by National Sports Association (NSA)

For Post-Programme Report:

  • Post-programme summary report
  • Photocopies of official receipts for course/registration fee, accommodation, airfare, land transfer, airport tax, travel insurance and/or certificate awarded e.g. certificate of attendance/competence (where applicable)
  • A set of programme materials
  • Photographs from the event

Successful applicants are also to abide by the Post-Programme Deliverables set forth by Sport Singapore.

When to apply?

Coaches should submit their applications at least 1 month before the programme commences. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

Successful applicants will be notified within 6 to 8 weeks. Please note that SportSG does not enter into any correspondence on unsuccessful applications.

How much?

Individual coaches are eligible to obtain up to the maximum cap specified for their NROC level or at a lower amount as deemed appropriate by SportSG.

Disbursement

1. For conferences/short-term courses/workshops/seminars:

  • The approved funds will only be disbursed upon submission of official receipts and/or certificate awarded e.g. certificate of attendance/appreciation (where applicable) upon completion of the programme, and completion of all Post-Grant Deliverables (e.g. post-programme summary report, CCE workshop(s)).

2. For degree/diploma courses:

  • The approved funds will be disbursed directly to the relevant institution/organisation. SportSG will liaise directly with the relevant institution/organisation on how the funds will be disbursed, subject to the duration of the course. Applicant who fails to complete the course of study successfully is required to return the disbursed grant to SportSG.

Terms and Conditions

The applicant shall refund SportSG the full disbursed grant amount should the applicant, without valid reasons and where applicable, fails to fulfil all the necessary procedures, requirements and Post-Grant Deliverables.

False declaration in any form may effect immediate disqualification from the grant. 

The applicant can only apply for reimbursements (claims) on expenditure items approved in the initial CDG application.

The above terms and conditions of the CDG is subject to periodical review and SportSG reserves the right to make amendments without prior notification. Interested applicants may contact SportSG for any latest updates.
