SNL Sports School kicks off

Singapore , 01 Mar 2014

Singapore Sports School turned on the lights for 80 players from SportCares and the newest Saturday Night Lights football programme tonight. Joined by our Coaches Bohari, Gary, Isa, Leo, Nazir, Yakob and strength and conditioning trainer Karan, the players brought a love of the game and a lot of family into the first session of SNL Sports School.

Making their debut at SNL Sports School were players from the Deaf Sports Association. Coach Nazir will be training them for the Malaysia Deaf Sports Games in June where they hope to defeat the hosts and qualify for the Asia Pacific Deaf Games in Taiwan in 2015. Thank you to interpreter Irene and volunteers Eng Meng and Addy from DSA for bridging the gap during training.

The young team from Chai Chee had the best passing and game strategy of the session—a sign of how far this group has come. Coach Yakob ran a goalkeeping clinic for a few of the boys early in the night and it paid off for Wahyu who made a beautiful sliding save during his match.

Happiest player on the pitch? Hayei being coached by Isa and scoring on a free kick.

Happiest team? Blue Xephos being coached by Leo and Gary after enduring the long hiatus at Jurong Stadium.

Stand-out endurance athlete of the night was 17 year-old Thaslim who in the afternoon had been running with Coach Elangovan and his national junior squad members in the afternoon at CCAB at Evans.

Special thanks to the good folks at Sports School who welcomed us into their amazing venue: Raymond, Mike and Saleha.
