Introduction to Strength and Conditioning for Youth Athletes

(For All NROC Coaches)


Using the Youth Physical Development Model (YPDM), we will explore the importance of strength and conditioning across all ages, especially for youth athletes. Coaches will learn the components of Strength and Conditioning (S&C) and using the model, be able to plan an overview of an appropriate S&C programme for their athletes.

This workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Overview of YPDM for boys and girls
  • Peak Height Velocity (PHV) – applications and recommendations for childen on YPDM
  • Components of strength and conditioning (S&C)
  • Training cycles
  • Formulate the overview of the youth S&C development curriculum: medium to long-term planning

The desired outcomes of this workshop are:

  • Participants understand the research and importance of the YPDM principles
  • Participants to be able to explain the fundamentals of S&C training for youth athletes
  • Participants can examine the S&C training needs for their specific sport
  • Participants are able to develop an S&C training plan overview for 1 season 

About the Presenter

This workshop will be facilitated by Ms Saudi Tan. Saudi has more than 10 years of experience working with both adults and children in the sport and fitness industry in Singapore and the region. She is a lecturer at Republic Polytechnic (RP) and has been working closely with Sport Singapore (SportSG) as well. She has also been the Chief Facilitator for SportSG’s FUN Start MOVE Smart! Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) Introductory Workshop since 2012.
