‘Sharing Session on Youth Training and Competition Models’ by CoachSG and NROC Coach
(For NROC Coaches who are coaching at the competitive level)
Description
Training and competition are the 2 main focus of sports coaching. Within these 2 areas of focus, sports coaches will need to understand and apply many training theories and competition skills to help their athletes achieve their fullest potential. How can coaches do these better? At this workshop, Mr Sky Khoo Zhihao (NROC Senior Coach (Athletics)) will share what he has learnt about these at the recent Youth Seminar on Training and Competition models at Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The objectives of this workshop are to:
- Elaborate about the stages of athlete development (Athletics-specific)
- Discuss the various theoretical principles behind planning for training
- Discuss how competition skills are different from skills required in training, and how to develop competition skills
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Recognise the different stages of athlete development
- Reflect on how to apply the various training theories to their own coaching context
- Differentiate training skills vs. competition skills, and explore ways to develop their athletes’ competition skills
