Description

The objectives of this workshop are to:

  1. Recognise the importance of coaches’ and athletes’ self-knowledge, and its benefits for each individual and for the team
  2. Explore the roles a coach plays and the impact on the athletes
  3. Recognise the benefits and challenges of balancing sport and education to help athletes achieve a balanced life

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Know how to cater to their athletes’ learning style and personality types and how to combine different coaching methods
  2. Recognise the importance of “person first, athlete second”
  3. Recognise that sport and education is a polarity that needs to be managed in order to achieve balance
  4. Have a simple plan of action to implement at their next coaching session

About the Presenter

This workshop is conducted by Ms Jovina Choo Bei Fen (NROC Coach (Sailing)). Jovina’s work experience includes the following:

  • Coaching Sailing to a variety of competitive levels (e.g. introductory courses for children and adults; MOE schools Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs); club coaching and high performance coaching))
  • Providing education and sport programmes to underprivileged youths
  • Developing and delivering values-centric sports programmes and workshops
  • Planning and organising sports events and competitions for clients

She has worked at both local and international organisations including:

  • World Olympians Association, Switzerland
  • International Olympic Committee, Switzerland
  • Special Olympics Singapore
