‘Nonlinear Assessment in Physical Education (PE) and Sports Cohesion’ by Singapore Physical Education Association (SPEA)

Description

This workshop aims to introduce a set of assessments based on the phenomena in Dynamical Systems Theory (DST) to PE teachers and sports coaches. DST is the underpinning theory behind the nonlinear pedagogy as well as Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU). The assessments adopt the ‘assessment for learning’ approach that is focused on formative and authentic learning environment.

About the Presenter

This workshop will be conducted by Dr. Wan Rizal Wan Zakaria (Senior Lecturer (School of Sports, Health and Leisure), Republic Polytechnic (RP)). Dr. Rizal’s main research revolves around DST and using a variety of sports, especially table tennis, to investigate key DST phenomena which is associated with skills acquisition and decision-making. His current research / pedagogical interest is to influence the adoption of nonlinear pedagogy and perturbation-induced (authentic) assessments in schools and National Sports Associations (NSAs). In addition, he is expanding his research on sleep-related effects in skills acquisition, performance analysis with Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and outdoor education. Other than sports, he has been involved in research on Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) firefighters, investigating the effectiveness of firefighters’ physical fitness tests in relation to ecological dynamics.
